About The
Midwife:
Terry Gyde, CPM, LM
I have been involved in helping women give birth
naturally since 1985. God
put this passion in my heart way back then and it
is still burning. I
started out as a Doula, which is a professional
labor coach. I took
my Doula training course at Holistic School of
Midwifery in Ann Arbor. Later,
I
took a course to become certified in Childbirth
Education through CAPPA.
Then in 2002 I was invited to
be part of an office for a CNM and a CPM. I was to be there
“in-house” Doula and childbirth educator. I sat in on their
appointments and began going to births with them. One evening, when office
hours were over, the two of them cornered me and
told me I needed to become a midwife! OH!
OH NO! I said. I
will leave that craziness to you two! They encouraged me to
pray about it. I said
that I would. I was
sure MY GOD would not want me to do anything so
crazy!
I had the
Father’s attention one day, so I asked Him. He said, “I have
provided the two best teachers in your area and I
would like you to do this for me.”
I was SHOCKED, scared, but willing. I apprenticed under them
for 2 years and emerged as a direct entry midwife
in 2004. The CPM and
I became partners and great friends and attended
births together until March 2011.
In October of 2010, God told me it was time
to go out on my own. I
cried, kicked, pouted and resisted this new move
of God until I realized in order to stay under His
blessing, I needed to obey.
I had put off going through the
process of becoming a Certified Professional
Midwife up to this point, but NOW was the time! Life went on hold as I
studied and put together my birth portfolio. In February 2011 I took
the National Association of Registered Midwives
Exam and PASSED! God
is good!
